Natural Family Planning is a holistic and natural approach to interpreting the signs of a woman’s body. Once learned, it can be used to achieve or postpone a pregnancy as well as to identify treatable medical disorders. All natural methods are scientifically based on a woman’s pattern of hormonal changes, marking days of fertility and infertility. Today’s NFP is not the “Rhythm Method” of the past. Couples will learn to understand, interpret, respect, and appreciate their combined fertility. NFP is not a contraceptive as it does nothing to suppress or block conception. However, with proper education followed by consistency in following the instructions, these methods are 98-99% effective in postponing pregnancy.
One form of NFP is the Sympto-Thermal Method
While using the Sympto-thermal Method a couple learns to chart the woman’s basal body temperature each morning and multiple other signs in a woman's body throughout the cycle to determine which days are considered fertile or infertile. A couple can then use this information to either help achieve or post pone a pregnancy.
A second form of NFP is the Creighton Model FertilityCare System
This method may be combined with NaproTechnology (or Natural Procreative Technology). This form of charting has been researched for over 30 years, published in countless medical journals, and regarded as a medical science. It is easy to learn, easy to use, and no temperatures are required. This form of charting can assist a couple in identifying reasons for and naturally treating infertility, menstrual cramps / endometriosis, PMS, irregular bleeding, PCOS, recurrent miscarriage, postpartum depression, premature labor prevention, and other hormonal irregularities. It can be used during pre-teen / teen years, breast-feeding and peri-menopause. To be used effectively, multiple one-on-one teaching sessions are required.
